Hilton Head Island's Largest One Day Event! It's back! Just like they have been doing for the past 19 years, restaurants, independent groups, and local fire fighters alike will once again be gathering at Shelter Cove Community Park to win the hearts and stomachs of the festival goers. If you love wings, you already know this is a can't miss. However, unlike the commercial with the food fighting you, I can guarantee that there won't be any wings walking around hitting you!
I've been to the Wing Fest many times and never once walked away hungry. Whether you devour your wings in the 'umbrella' fashion, or whether you've figured out that there is actually more meat on the 'flat' piece of the wing instead of the drummie, you'll have a terrific time.
It's Not Just the Food
There is also lots of entertainment being offered in the park. As has been the case for the last few years, they have a ton of great music. Lyn Avenue plays from 11:00-12:30P, Deaz Guys from 1:00p-3:00p, Jacob & the Good People from 3:00p - 6:00.
Need something for the kids?
This venue is a terrific place for them to run around and this kind of food lends itself to fun anyway. The entire event is also built around children since proceeds go to the Island Recreation Center to fund their scholarship program. Also important to note, the event is sponsored by Hargray. Since we don't have huge corporations or large banking centers, our local companies always step up to the plate and Hargray is truly a good corporate neighbor.
Bring Your own water!: You don't want to end up paying $4.00 for a bottle of water.
Throw some things in a backpack: You can easily enter and exit the Shelter Cove Park with your backpack. You might want to take a few minutes to relax on the grass to in addition to water in the backpack you might throw in a blanket. You may also want to think about bringing a fold-up chair. With the great music and most likely a beautiful island day, you'll want to enjoy your wings without trying to accomplish a balancing act. Not to add something negative to this scene, the park is close to the marsh - if you're the type of person who attracts insects from miles away - bug bracelets, bug spray, etc. might be something else to pack in the backpack.
Parking: Your best shot at finding a spot will be to get there early and look in the Shelter Cove Mall area or in back of the new Towne Center. Because this is the first year with the newly constructed Kroger, to be frank I'm not quite sure how they'll be addressing parking. When in doubt, come early.
Bring Cash: Charging in the past has not been available so it's usually much faster if you have cash.
