Bluffton's Bivalves are back!
The 23rd annual Bluffton Rotary Oyster Fest is one of the most eagerly awaited winter festivals in a Town that has plenty of reasons to get out and enjoy the bounty of the May River. Guests can shuck all of the tasty salty, sweet oysters they can handle. For folks who are not inclined, the Rotary also provides homemade chilli, hot dogs, brats, and their BLUFFTON WORLD FAMOUS hand-cut french fries.
I've been to the oyster fest for the last 7 years and would have to say that I still have all my fingers; though ended up with several bandaids last year. It's a great way to meet and greet friends, bring visitors to enjoy one of the best parts of living in the lowcountry.
It's Not Just the Food
The local band Low Country Boil will be performing and keeping the atmosphere fun with fiddling and their bluegrass tunes.
GET YOUR TICKETS IN ADVANCE! - they typically only sell 600 so the lucky few who have a Rotarian for a friend or go online get the first crack at it.
Bring a Chair!: As the sun sets over the May River, there's always a big bonfire with sparks flying high up into the beautiful night sky so though there are some folding chairs, be prepared by bringing your own or blanket to sit on and enjoy the last bits of oyster juice or a cold brew.
Bring your own oyster knife: though they do provide them, some of us locals have our own hand-carved and know who licked the blade the last time. Also, a good idea, if you have them, bring an oyster glove - if it's cold, perhaps bring two.
Come early for good parking: All parking is free. Your best shot at getting a good spot would be to get there early and that way you might be able to park all the way down by the park. Otherwise, parking is all along Wharf Street and there is a small lot at the corner.
Bring Cash: The ticket includes all of the food and oysters you can eat but if you're interested in the beer, bring cash and an ID.
